Clava Cairns at Balnuaran, Scotland, 2013

3 May, 2013 pm
After leaving the Culloden Visitor’s Centre we stopped off to photograph on of the amazing railway viaducts to be seen in the area quite close to Inverness

As the Prehistoric Burial Cairns of Balnuaran of Clava were nearby we headed that way next.  Commonly known as the Clava Cairns, it is the site of a well preserved group of Bronze Age burial cairns that were built around 4000 years ago. The complex comprises a series of passage graves, ring cairns, kerb cairns and standing stones in a beautiful setting. However,  the weather was certainly not kind to us at this site as it was freezing cold and raining making the ground extremely soggy.

Roslyn treading very carefully on the soggy ground!

Part of the complex is by the roadside. Note the Viaduct in the Distance
