While in San Antonio we took a short walk over the bridge to the King William Historic District which was settled by wealthy German merchants in the late 1800. This district was San Antonio's first suburb built on land that was once farmland for the Alamo Mission. It fell into disrepair until the 1960's when it was rediscovered and restoration began. Now it consists of 25 blocks of historic mansions set amid lovely landscaping. Three of them are open to the public.
We thoroughly enjoyed this peaceful walk and would recommend it not only for the beautiful homes and architecture but escape the hustle and bustle of downtown San Antonio!
