The Chimaera, Turkey, 2014

On 8 April a group of us from Finike Marina visited The Chimaera and the ruins of an ancient Byzantine-Genoese fortification on the slopes of Mt Olympos near Cirali village. The Chimaera, a series of eternal flames arising out of the cracks on the bare hillside, has fascinated folk for hundreds of years and is shrouded in mystery, myths and legends. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellerophon

This was a delightful outing led by Terry (Common Sense) even though it involved a 30 minute steep climb up a pebbly path! Most of us had fun " playing with the fires" to make sure the flames would kept burning eternally and the legends alive. Some of us wished we had taken marshmallows with us!
