Central Anatolia, Turkey, 2014

15 April, 2014
In April we were off yet again on another "Gwen's Tour." This time to Central Anatolia Turkey where we were to spend time in Ankara, the administrative capital of Turkey as well as visit Amasya, Yazilikaya (Capital City of the ancient Hittites), Sinop on the Black Sea Coast and Safranbolu. Excitment was high as this was a long awaited trip to this area of Turkey we had yet to see.
After travelling on a dolmus (local mini bus) and a small  private bus  from Finike to Bodrum we then flew from Bodrum to Antayla  where we met up with our small group and the tour and the fun began. First stop was the Ataturk Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemel Ataturk, the much admired leader of the Turkish War of Independence and founder and first President of the Republic of Turkey. There was a lot of security at this sight as some "big wigs" were due to visit that day never-the-less we managed to get a few photos.

Ataturk's Tomb is below this huge marble stone.

Next we visited to the Ankara Castle also know as the hilltop fortress or the Hisar, the Citadel or the Kale. Here we had fantastic views over Ankara  and were able to wander through a Turkish village as we climbed to the top.

It was very hard to get  photo without being intrusive.

After our visit to the Ankara Castle we spent the afternoon engrossed in the comprehensive Anatolian Civilization Museum.

Just to make it an extremely full day we then  spent time in the  old market area of Ankara.
