Istanbul -Out and About- Turkey- June 2011

After we loaded Hamamas on the transport ship we spent a few more days in Phuket (earlier Posts) and then flew into Istanbul in Turkey. We stayed at the lovely Empress Theodora Hotel  and spent 5 wonderful enjoying the sights sounds and aromas of the old city area. I have posted the major tourists sights in separate post but here is a taste of Istanbul as we enjoyed it.

Sidewalk Cafe all Set for the Evening Crowds
Tom at the Million Milestone Marker

The Milion  was a mile-marker monument erected in the early 4th century AD in Constantinople (Istanbul). It was the starting-place for measurement of distances for all the roads leading to the cities of the Byzantine Empire. It survived intact until at least the late 15th century and fragments of it were discovered again in the 1960s.

 Food temptations were everywhere!

Donner Kabab
Hot Corn and Chestnuts

Watermelon! Yum
Icecream Making is an Artform!
Everywhere we walked we found new scenes to delight us.

The Ceramics and Waterpipes were vibrantly coloured.
