Fran and Tom's Arrival in Turkey-11 June 2011
Well here we are in Istanbul Turkey after a horrible flight from Phuket to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur. The Phuket to KL segment was ok except for the horrible food but the rest of the journey was no fun,
Well here we are in Istanbul Turkey after a horrible flight from Phuket to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur. The Phuket to KL segment was ok except for the horrible food but the rest of the journey was no fun,
We were way up the back of the plane and the weather was turbulant so the back end of the plane bucked around like a bucking bronco for about the first 4 hours of the flight! Sleeping was well neigh impossible! It did settle down later so we managed to have some sleep- well Fran watched 2 movies while Tom slept. This was a 10 hour flight so you can imagine how we feel now (5.30pm Turkey time GMT +2- we think)
We arrived at 7 am as the plane was an hour late leaving KL. Oh the joys of travel! We had to wait til 1pm before we could check into our lovely little hotel The Empress Theodora Hotel which is in the centre of the Old City. We have walked our tooties off today and tomorrow we will see some of the special sites.
This is high tourist season at the moment and the tourists are like ants swarming everywhere. Lots of them are on tours and follow their guide who generally has an umbrella or a flag waving about as a recognition point for the group. We will go to the special sites very early in the mornings to try and "beat the crowds."
