After our aborted trip to the Indian Ocean (See Post below) we decided we needed a new headsail as the other one had started to delaminate. It was not a new sail when we bought the boat but it was a beautiful sail and it had served us well on our travels. So we are sad to have to replace it but.. it's time.
After our aborted trip to the Indian Ocean (See Post below) we decided we needed a new headsail as the other one had started to delaminate. It was not a new sail when we bought the boat but it was a beautiful sail and it had served us well on our travels. So we are sad to have to replace it but.. it's time.
So Tom did heaps of research, took lots of measurements and contacted a 4 companies for quotes. This included Lee sails (Hongkong) Doyle Sails (Australia), Rolly Tasker (Thailand) and Hyde Sails Cebu(Philippines). The quotes were all fairly similar but Tom felt that Hyde Sails was the most professional as they named the sail material and outlined the benefits of each cloth as well as giving us a price for each type of cloth. Tom can give details if everyone is interested.
Guess What is in this Heavy Box? |
We were both comfortable with Hyde Sails as we had been to their absolutely huge sail loft when were in Cebu in 2008. Hyde Sails is a British Company based in Cebu and is so busy that it works around the clock! We had our sails mended and new suncovers made from a copy of our old ones in 2008. Also in 2009 we had met another couple who were thrilled with the new headsail they made there.
Laying it out Ready to Put on the Furler |
So we placed an order with Hyde Sails and were told it would be delivered within a month of making the payment. It was a tad late in arriving but if you consider that as we are currently on a small resort island of the coast of Langkawi which is an island off the coast of the mainland Malaysia they did fairly well in getting it to us.
