17 Oct 2010
After enjoying 5 days in Port Dickson we set sail for Penang 219 nm away on 13 Oct 2010. Once again we had to motor sail with just the Staysail to steady us as there was almost no wind and storms all around. We found the AIS invaluable again especially with all the ships anchored off Port Klang which is the main port for Kulau Lumpur.

Overnight there lots of smaller fishing vessels working over the banks where the shallow water meets the deeper water. At 6am Fran counted 25 vessels on the Radar screen within a 4 nm radius! Throughout the day we found ourselves dodging many fish traps that seemed to pop up right on our course. On 14 Oct we anchored at Pasir Bogak on Palau Pangor where we enjoyed a swim, had Celcom coverage (Internet) and even had a comfortable sleep!
We were on our way early on 15 Oct and as usual we were motor sailing and dodging fishing vessels and fishing traps. This time the count was 28 vessels in a 360 degree view! As we day wore on we were in deeper water so we saw less vessels and traps. There were still lots of storms around. After 62nm we anchored at Palau Riman for the night.
This is the weather we encountered throughout the 16 Oct as we were approaching Penang. We were motor sailing in the separation channel between Penang Island and mainland Malaysia.

An Approaching Storm |
Although we had read all the information on the height of the Penang Bridge we were still wondering if we would really fit under it. The bridge is 28 metres high and our mast is 20 metres high from the deck.
Will We Fit Under? |
Will We?? |
Yeah! We Did.
Couldn't resist taking this photo of the highrise buildings on Pulau Penang and a local fishing craft.

Where is that Marina? |
We were berthed at the poorly maintained Tanjang City Marina by 11 am on 16 Oct 2010.
