Postcard from Miri "Mercy Malaysia Medical Mission" Malaysia- August 2009

In August our friend Jennie Soh introduced us to the activities of Mercy Malaysia Sarawak Chapter,  an NGO that assists families in rural areas. Our first experience was assisting in a Medical Mission in the village of Sepupok one and half  hours drive from Miri.

The Volunteer Doctors
A team of 29 volunteers took all the supplies and set up a medical clinic in the local community centre. Four doctors and two dentists were assisted by the rest of the volunteers in the treatment of  175 patients throughout the day. 140 of the patients had teeth extracted!

It was an amazing experience for Tom and I and Chris and Guy from sv Remora. The villagers are just so poor and so far from other medical care that the medical clinics by Mercy Malaysia are their only option.
