28 June, 2014
There were fun and games in the harbour near the Finike Marina as the Finike Cabotage Festival was celebrated on 28 June. Cabotage is defined as "trade or navigation in coastal waters, or the exclusive right of a country to operate air traffic within its territory".
The preparations took most of the day as teams of workers moved the smaller boats out of the way, erected the "slippery pole", took down the fences so folk could have free access to the section of the harbour when the celebrations were to take place and set up the the officials platform. Oh, and of course the DJ set up the sound equipment and the commenced playing extremely loud music all day! It was very windy so the workers had a difficult time controlling the balloon banner.
The onlookers began trickling in just before 6 pm and gradually more and more folk arrived until they had filled every gap around the edge of the harbour. Everyone who lived in Finike seemed to be there! Great fun was had by all, the participants as well as the onlookers, especially watching the young men trying to climb the pole to reach the Turkish Flag before falling off!
