Finike-Turkey- 2011

Oct 2011
Finike is one of a number of towns we have visited as we cruised along the Turkish coast. It is surrounded by orange orchards, hence the town symbol of an orange. We stayed for about 8 days in Finike Marina as the weather was too nasty to be on anchor. Although it doesn't look it in this photo!

Overlooking Finike Marina
We were told it was a country town but just look at all those buildings!

Overlooking Finike
This old man and his goats were on  the same path as we walked around the hills overlooking Finike. It was interesting to come across the "real Turkey" rather than "tourist Turkey."

The orange is the town's symbol.
We climbed up that hill to see this giant flag close up!
This is not a river but a smelly drain!!!
We are not sure how the dolphin got into the act.

There is always one or two  or even more statues of Ataturk in every town or village!

Fran with Ataturk Again!

Main Street

Like all the towns in the area Finike has a wonderful weekly market. Many of the sellers move up and down the coast with the markets as each town has a different day for it's market.

These two boys were having fun on the sculptures and they pleaded with us to take their photo!

I love the look on their Faces!
Finike could win a Tidy Town Competition!

Many cruisers  "over winter" in Finike but although we loved the this little rural town we preferred to winter in  a larger town.
