Istanbul-The Grand Bazaar- Turkey- 2011

The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul was built by Faith Sultan Mehmet II in 1454 and covers an area of 54,653 square metres. It is the oldest and largest covered bazaar in the world as it has thousands of stalls in a labyrinth of streets with entrances and exits in every direction. It is very easy to get lost! It is however a wonderful place to spend your time and money!

The array of items for sale is just mind blowing. You name it and it's there. Row after row of "Stuff" as Tom calls it. We wondered how anyone could make a living with so many in competition with each other!

The photos that follow give just a small sample of what is on offer.

Beautiful Ceramics
Turkish Slippers

Yummy Turkish Delight
Spices!

Belly Dancing Anyone!

Dried Fruits
Someone always wanted to talk to Tom! It must have been that hat. They all asked the usual question "where are you from? or said "Aussie, Aussie, oy oy oy!"
