5 June 2011
If you thought that it was scary when Hamamas was loaded onto the transport ship "Rickmers Yokohama" in Phuket on June 6 2011, well take a long slow look at her being off loaded in Marmaris! Also bear in mind that the wind was blowing at 15 knots!
Watch how she is lifted then inched, coached and maneuvered forward and up and over the yacht in front of her. The problem was that she had been moved further forward after they had first loaded her so it was more difficult to offload her. Once she was clear of the other yacht they then had to turn and twirl her whilst suspended metres above the water. That was the most scary moment!

Hamamas is somewhere on this transport ship. |
When they lowered her to deck height, Tom and I were allowed to step aboard. She was then lowered to water level and tied alongside the big ship which was rising and falling with the waves as the wind had picked up. We didn't mind though as it was great to be back on board our own home but our job was not over as we had to replace the backstay and the lazy jacks as they had to taken off while Hamamas was in the slings.
Finally, we were all set to be untied from the big ship but there was not a soul in sight. We could not untie ourselves as they ropes were tied to the ships rails metres above us! We had to call and cooee for a while before someone came and untied us. We then headed off towards the Marmaris Yacht Marina where we had made a booking but soon discovered that they were unable to put us into a berth that night so we anchored outside the marina.
We were not "happy chappies" as we had no fresh food or cold beer on board as the fridges had been emptied and turned off for the trip from Thailand. Just as well we had pasta and tin tomatoes in the lockers so we were able to enjoy dinner and a glass or two of wine. The next day we secured a berth in the marina but that too is another long story!
