Istanbul- Archaeological Museum-Turkey 2011

June 2011
The Museum of Archaeology in Istanbul houses many beautiful artifacts from a variety civilizations housed in ornate buildings set in beautiful gardens. Bits and pieces of ancient artefacts are displayed in the "outdoor museum."

One of the most famous pieces in the collection is the beautifully carved Alexander Sarcophagus which depicts scenes of Alexander the Great's exploits. There are hundreds of  exquisitely  carved exhibits, so many in fact, that we lost track of who was who as we.spent many enjoyable hours just wondering around admiring the extensive collection.

We recommend that you take a few hours to visit the Museum if you are in Istanbul. Meanwhile, enjoy this small sample of the collection!
