Rebak- Why we are Shipping Hamamas to Turkey- April 2011

Tom and I have decided to ship Hamamas to the Mediterranean (Marmaris in Turkey) in May this year!

Why? Well as you all know going across the Indian Ocean and through the Red Sea is off the cards because of all the pirate activity and the political unrest in that area.

Sailing around South Africa is a long journey which would take it's toll on us and on Hamamas (none of us is getting any younger!). Also if we took this route it would take us another 3 years as we would not leave here until Jan 2012 due to the seasons. That would mean that we would not be in the Med until 2014!

As we have always wanted to be in the Med we have opted to ship Hamamas. She will go on a heavy lift vessel that will pick her up in Phuket and unload her in Marmaris. So she will see the Red Sea after all!  We will fly to Turkey to met her in June 2011.

We have been  fortunate enough to  secure a free berth for one year at a new super yacht marina in Northern Cyprus (Google it -Karpaz Gate Marina) Not that we will spend all our time there but we will most likely "winter" there (Nov 2011-May2012) But it makes going this year a bit more attractive.

All sounds a bit unreal at the moment and we are still arranging our finances and studying the contract.
