Cruising -Indian Ocean -Jan 2011

Flying our Australian Flag Again!
We set sail from Langkawi Malaysia on 4 Jan 2011 to head to Cochin in India ready to join the Vasco Da Gama Rally to Turkey.

One of the Lovely Sailing Moments

However, after sailing and motor-sailing for 750 nm were prevented from going on as a dirty great big Low popped up right on or track! We found ourselves in an extreme weather system which eventually moved on to devastate the east coast of Sri Lanka. In addition, it caused damage to many yachts that were also heading that way. Some of those remain in Sri Lanka for repairs. We turned back and are now back in Rebak Marina Langkawi. We did a round trip of 1500 nm and used 900 of our 1000 ltrs of fuel!
The yacht Baccus was also going to join the Rally and was just 60 nm in front of us when we turned back. They continued on and ended up having to be rescued from their disabled yacht which was abandoned. So as you can imagine it wasn't an easy time. for any of us
We do have some sail damage and will most likely have to replace the Genoa. So we will remain in Malaysia and or Thailand for another year so we can get everything sorted out.
