On 4 Feb 2008 we toured Dublon Is with a number of other divers. The trip across the to island from Chuuk and back again was similar to being on an adventure ride at a Waterpark! We travelled in one of the Dive shops' highspeed dive boat with no weather protection so it was like speeding through a waterfall on an out of control mechanised surf board! We were drenched by the time we arrived but even so it was fun!

Our reason for the visit was that Dublon became an important administrative centre in the Pacific for Japanese Navy during World War II and now there are many WWII wrecks and relics on the island. These included the remains of the Japanese civil and naval hospital and the cemetery, numerous concrete bunkers and the general's cave and burned out oil storage tankers. In addtion, there was an old Japanese Seaplane Base (that kept Tom happy!)

We toured the entire rough roaded Island in the back of a truck so yet again it was an adventure in itself! The islanders were pleased to show us around their now peaceful little island and also treated us to freshly cut coconut juice.

We were sodden by the time we arrived back in Chuuk but never-the-less it was a very interesting day out.
