Yap-Micronesia- 2008

Yap is a beautiful little island with gentle lovely people who live a friendly, serene, laid back lifestyle. What a contrast to Chuuk. Clean, no graffiti, tarred roads and road signs, electricity, underground telephone cables and even prepaid wireless internet card! It is the Island of the Stone Money.
While there we dived with the Manta Rays and experienced some of the Yapese culture as Yap is one of the more traditional FSM island. We went on an Island Tour to see the amazing, gigantic stone money, the traditional boat building and the rusting relics of WW11. A highlight of our stay was a visit to one of the villages for a cultural experience. Kaday Village is keeping it's traditions alive as well as passing them on to the children, by inviting tourists to their village once a week to experience their tradtional ways and to watch the wonderful colourful dispaly of dancing by the youngster all dressed in tradtional outfits.

We both loved Yap and would have stayed longer except that the Easter and Public holidays got in the way. If we stayed it would have been another 10 more days before we could have cleared out and then we may not have had a suitable weather window to sail to Palau. We needed to keep moving west as it was getting closer to typhoon season.
