USS Lexington, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA, 2014

15 Jan, 2014
The next stop on our Road Trip in Texas was in the gorgeous city of Corpus Christie on the bay in southern Texas. The purpose of our stop was to visit the wonderful old aircraft carrier USS Lexington which was nicknamed the Blue Ghost by Tokyo Rose during WW1. It was called the Blue Ghost not only because of the blue /grey paint but because every time Tokyo Rose reported it having sunk it always seemed to come back fight again!
In 1992 the carrier was set up as the USS Lexington Museum on the Bay with numerous realist displays explaining what life would have been like on board this floating city.
USS Lexington, sometimes known as Lady Lex, had an amazing war history and is now a major tourist attraction. It has an excellent exhibition, above and below decks, and is  "heaven" for anyone interested in ships, planes and war history.
