The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Park is home to the battleship USS Texas (Previous Post) the San Jacinto Memorial and the San Jacinto Museum of History which is located inside the base of the Memorial. There were some fantastic views over the Houston Ship Channel and the Memorial Park from the observation deck of the 173m ( 568') Memorial.
The excellent Museum focuses on the History of the Battle of San Jacinto and the history of the Texas including the Mayan, Spanish and Mexican influences. As we wandered around the exhibits and parklands it was hard to imagine that this peaceful place was once a bloody Battleground and so much of the history of Texas derived from the outcome of the events that took place there.
