After we left San Antonio and The Alamo Mission we travelled further along the "San Antonio Mission Trail" stopping at another three very different Missions (churches/fortresses). Our first stop was Mission Concepcion, established in 1716 and the best preserved. There had been a concerted effort to conserve the wall painting in 1988 and a major restoration and conservation program commenced in 2009. The ruins and interior of the church and wall paintings are stunning and intriguing. As usual we spent a long wondering around the site trying to visualise what life must have been like when the mission was fully operational.
