Hippocrates was born on Kos around 460 BC. He became known as the “Father of Medicine” The medical code he established, known as The Hippocratic Oath, is still in use today.
It is thought that Hippocrates used to teach his students under the Hippocrates Plane Tree in Hippocrates Square in Kos city centre. Plane trees rarely live for more than 200 years but such is the popularity of Hippocrates that hundreds of tourists flock to have their photos taken at the famous tree. Of course we did too!
